60 New Jobs Coming to Bedford, Ind.
Wednesday September 09, 2009

BEDFORD, Ind. (WISH) - New jobs are coming to Bedford, Indiana.

Lt. Governor Becky Skillman and executives from Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) announced Wednesday the company will grow its Indiana technology development and manufacturing operations.

SAIC is leasing space inside the former Visteon plant which is now called Bedford’s East Gate Business and technology center.

“Being able to carve out 55 K square feet of this facility was really ideal for us because we did not have to wait the time it would take to build a new building. We’re very pleased to be able to utilize some of the Visteon workforce where ever we can, where ever we need,” said SAIC Senior Vice President Dave Seckinger.

The 60 new SAIC employees are responsible for installing updated communication equipment in military vehicles.

SAIC is based out of San Diego. The company has expanded its workforce in Indiana from 100 employees in 2001 to over 1000 employees today.

“Even in these very uncertain economic times, companies like SAIC are moving forward. They’re giving a much needed dose of optimism to our community and to our economy,” said Lt. Gov. Skillman

Visteon closed the facility in April of 2008 and 685 employees lost their jobs. Since then one third of the plant has been leased to a number of companies including SAIC.

SAIC is optimistic it will be able to grow its business and expand its workforce in the coming years.
